Google Snake is the classic snake game in its most stripped-back form: a green grid, a small snake and an apple. How to play

Each apple adds to your length and your score, and the snake never stops moving, so the board gets tighter the longer you last.

The rules are the usual ones: touching the edge or any part of your own body ends the run. You cannot reverse straight back into yourself, so every turn has to be a left or a right from the current heading.

Tips

• Plan one turn ahead. Look at where the snake will be after the next move, not where it is now.
• Early on, keep to the middle of the board. Hugging the edge leaves you fewer escape routes.
• Once you are long, move in tidy sweeping rows, like mowing a lawn, so you never trap your head inside your own body.
• Do not tap two turns in quick succession in a tight spot. At speed, a second keypress can arrive before the first turn has happened.
